Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 10, 2026

SEO Audit Tool ("the Extension") is a browser extension that analyzes webpages for common search engine optimization issues. This privacy policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and what information is transmitted externally.

Data the Extension Accesses

When you click the Extension icon, it reads the following from the currently active tab:

  • HTML meta tags (title, description, Open Graph, Twitter Card, robots, viewport, canonical, language)
  • Heading elements (H1–H4)
  • Image elements and their attributes (src, alt, width, height, loading, fetchpriority)
  • Link elements (href, rel attributes)
  • Structured data (JSON-LD script blocks)
  • Page performance indicators (DOM size, render-blocking resources, font loading)

This data is analyzed entirely within your browser. The audit results are displayed in the Extension popup and are not stored, saved, or transmitted to any server.

Data That Is NOT Collected

  • We do not collect your browsing history
  • We do not collect personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address, etc.)
  • We do not collect the content of the pages you visit
  • We do not use cookies or tracking pixels
  • We do not collect analytics about how you use the Extension
  • We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes

Crash Reporting

The Extension uses Sentry, a third-party error monitoring service, to collect crash reports when the Extension encounters an unexpected error. When a crash occurs, the following information may be sent to Sentry:

  • The error message and JavaScript stack trace
  • The browser version and operating system
  • The Extension version

Crash reports do not include the content of the page you were auditing, your browsing history, or any personally identifiable information. This data is used solely to identify and fix bugs in the Extension.

Sentry's privacy policy is available at sentry.io/privacy.

Permissions

The Extension requests the following browser permissions:

  • activeTab — allows the Extension to access the content of the tab you are currently viewing, only when you click the Extension icon
  • scripting — allows the Extension to inject the audit script into the active tab on demand

The Extension does not run in the background, does not access tabs you have not explicitly activated, and does not monitor your browsing activity.

Data Retention

Audit results exist only in memory while the Extension popup is open. When you close the popup, all data is discarded. No audit data is persisted to disk, local storage, or any remote server.

Crash reports sent to Sentry are retained according to Sentry's data retention policies (90 days on the free plan).

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
